Image formats store pixels in different ways. JPG is widely accepted and efficient for photographs, PNG preserves transparency and crisp graphic edges, and WebP often combines good quality with a small file. Conversion creates a new file; renaming an extension does not actually change its format.
Transparent pixels cannot exist in JPG. Before JPG conversion, choose the background color that should replace transparent areas so edges do not unexpectedly turn black. HEIC and HEIF files from iPhones are detected from their internal signature, then a decoder is loaded only for that file. The large decoder never delays normal JPG, PNG or WebP users.
Use JPG when submitting a camera photo to an older portal, PNG for logos or screenshots that need transparency, and WebP for modern web publishing. Conversion cannot restore detail already lost by earlier compression. All decoding and encoding happens locally, and the canvas output intentionally excludes EXIF location and device information.

Can I rename .png to .jpg?
No. The bytes remain PNG and a strict portal may reject them. This tool decodes and re-encodes the pixels into the selected real format.
Why does JPG need a background color?
JPG has no transparency channel. Choosing a color prevents transparent edges from becoming black or unpredictable.
Why is HEIC slower the first time?
HEIC needs a specialized local decoder. It is downloaded from this same site only after a genuine HEIC signature is found.
Are converted images uploaded?
No. Files remain in browser memory and the result is produced as a local Blob download.
